This video shows me giving my slab table base a final smooth before ebonising. This plane is 6 & 5/8" long with an 1 & 1/2" wide blade. I find it easier and more enjoyable to push a smaller smoother. The narrower blade means that you make more passes, however, with a little camber even this Ring-Porous Victorian Ash comes up glassy smooth.
This video "BJS Planes and Woodworking: 1 3/4" Low
slung smoothing plane" shows me smoothing some black hearted Sassafras,
using my 1 3/4" brass and steel infill plane, made with Kingwood Rosewood
as the infill material.
Fitting a Gidgee infill with my trusty squirrel tail plane.
Using the "flat block" technique, this video shows how quick and easy it is to set up a smoothing plane after sharpening.
